ABOUT | Rev. Fr. Paul-Michael Piega, S.T.L.
Father Piega, pronounced like Michaelangelo's masterpiece the "pieta" but instead of a "t" replace it with a "g", is an ordained priest and in service for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin, Texas. He was born in Queens, New York, and lived there since the age of eight, until he and his family moved to Texas. After graduating from Rowlett High School, Fr. Piega pursued Pre-Dentistry studies at Texas A&M University where he initially began with a major in Biology.
After a deep conversion experience in his sophomore year by attending a silent retreat during spring break, he fell back in love with his Catholic faith and began to discern a vocation towards the priesthood. Fr. Piega graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration, where shortly thereafter he entered seminary.
He is an alumnus of St. Joseph Seminary College in St. Benedict, Louisiana, and the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy, where he received a Bachelors in Philosophy and Theology respectively. He then studied at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross and acquired a licentiate degree in the Sacred Liturgy and also studied at the Pontifical North American College in Rome.
Fr. Piega has a passion to draw others to the heart of God and believes that one can encounter God through the beauty of our faith, especially through the Church's liturgy and by having an intimate and personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Moreover, Fr. Piega recognizes that before anything else that he is a follower of Jesus Christ and is an adopted beloved son of God.
He enjoys praying for others, graphic designing, video making, singing, drawing, painting, ultimate frisbee and more, but above all enjoys sharing God's joy and love with others. His hope is that you strive to become a saint and that you know that there is a God who loves you. Know of his prayers for you and he humbly asks that you please pray for him. “It is Jesus you seek when you dream of happiness; he is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; he is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is he who provokes you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is he who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is he who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle. It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be grounded down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal.” -St. Pope John Paul II
